A photobook is more than a container for images—it’s a tactile, narrative object where form and content are inseparable. Creating a book dummy is a vital part of this process: it allows you to test ideas, refine image sequencing, and explore how physical elements—such as paper, binding, format, and cover materials—shape the experience of browsing the book.
Join us this Fall, for the very first time in our studio, for a two part workshop session, where we explore all the steps of making a successful photobook, taking your project from the digital into material.
With over 15 years of hands-on experience across the photobook publishing spectrum—from zine-making and independent publishing, to producing high-end, limited-edition handmade book objects—we bring deep, practical knowledge of the field, both from the perspective of an artist as well as publisher and book maker. As a team running our own book design and bindery studio, through the years we’ve worked closely with artists, printers and distributors, navigating every stage of the process and production from concept to market. As artists, we published over 20 of our own titles, in various formats and edition sizes.
In this workshop, we’ll guide you through various production pathways, helping you understand how choices like edition size, printing technique, and binding methods affect both the aesthetics and the economics of your book. Whether you’re planning a handcrafted edition of 20 or exploring offset print runs, we’ll unpack the realities of the photobook market and give you the tools to make informed, intentional decisions about your project’s material life.
